Grommet was part of the 2013 Unusual Mortality Event that affected thousands of California sea lions in San Diego. He was rescued, rehabilitated, and released but unfortunately stranded again just 5 weeks later. He was then deemed non-releasable. Grommet joined the Ocean Connections Pigeon Forge family in 2023 and is a wonderful ambassador helping educate guests about the troubles marine mammals are facing in their natural environment. When he isn't looking for treasure in Buccaneer Bay, he is seen romping with his fellow flippered friends and enjoying ice enrichment.
